Transformation of Life Expectations as a Sociocultural Characteristic of Modern Youth: The Example of Vologda

The paper discusses the results of sociological measurements of the trends in sociocultural values among youth with respect to their attitude to life and their future prospects. The conclusions of the study are based on the data of two social surveys conducted in the Vologda Oblast in 2012 and 2015. The author analyses the changes in life expectations of young people (which are to a great extent negative). The study reveals the factors that primarily affect the development of this phenomenon. It presents social characteristics of the young inhabitants of Vologda oblast who have different expectations of their future. The author offers some ideas on the ways of smoothing negative consequences of ‘social pessimism’ among the young people.
