Abstract
The article analyses the concept of “excellent student syndrome” and the state of anxiety under the conditions of task performance assessment and in its absence. The “excellent student syndrome” includes not only high personal standards but also the reception of extrinsic rewards such as the appraisal by the others and outstanding achievements in all spheres of activities. On the basis of experimental research carried out with 40 secondary school students this paper shows that the “excellent student syndrome” is present if there is an interconnection between the high anxiety caused by the situation of appraisal and the high rates in the questionnaire “Excellent Student Syndrome”. It supports the hypothesis that the students with severe “excellent student syndrome” will have higher anxiety rate under the conditions of task performance assessment, while in the absence of assessment the state of anxiety will remain unaltered.
